LAKOS Separators are the most environmentally efficient method for removing solids from liquids.

They can:

  • Save water by reducing backwash cycles and liquid loss through filters

  • Reduce other waste as well, including waste of solids being filtered

Saving Water

LAKOS Separators require no backwashing, which is a huge advantage over the other types of filtration because it reduces water waste. LAKOS has the ability to greatly reduce/minimize and even have zero water loss given the way it operates and its' ability to purge while operating. Some media filters have so much water loss they often must install a huge holding tank to store the water since the drain cannot handle the backwash all at once.

Saving Energy

Other types of filters (like bag filters and other "barrier filters") have a very high per-square-inch-density when loaded with solids. As a result, any pumps used in the system must be sized for the greatest per-square-inch-density of the barrier. When the barrier is clean the pump is actually oversized and uses excessive energy. By utilizing LAKOS with a steady pressure drop, you don't need to oversize a pump for the filtration solution. In addition, by keeping heat exchangers clean (plate and frame or shell & tube) you also reduce energy costs since they operate more efficiently. Heat exchangers are used in all industries (industrial process cooling and HVAC).

Waste Reduction

By collecting solids using any type of paper media (indexing filters, cartridge bags, etc.) you can actually create a greater quantity of waste. In addition, by blending solids with the paper media, the waste is also more expensive to dispose. LAKOS allows purging by putting dewatered solids in a drum resulting in greatly reducing the waste leaving the plant AND providing the potential to either sell the material in the drum to a recycler (instead of paying to have it removed) or reuse it in the plant.
